Catherine Mottier's painting is inspired by the Eastern culture as well as the Western one.

It's influenced by the asian way of applying the black ink  in various shades from opaqueness to transparency and it's also influenced by the western more impressionist  way of using vivid colours organised on the canvas in various shapes and patches.

For many years now, I have worked on contrasts and colors revealed by the light. The light is a subject in itself whatever the subject, be it seacapes, cityscapes, portraits or bouquets.

If painting outdoor on the site remains the most important for me, it does not prevent me from tending towards a little more abstraction at times.
